OCD affects my families' life every day. My daughter is awaiting a referral to the local CAMHS following an assessment on 1st October 2015. It took 9 months for the assessment appointment to come around and the Psychologist was very apologetic.
I got some literature from the clinic and am thinking of contributing to the forums at www.ocdforums.org
My daughter is in Year 11 and was first diagnosed with the condition in 2013. She received CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) during this time and things did improve. We could go shopping in department stores and part of the therapy was actually to do these things.
Things did not improve at school, however and my daughter started to feel very anxious about attending. This has affected her predicted outcomes in her GCSEs but worse is watching her become increasingly distressed at coping with the normal life.
We have a German exchange pupil staying with us at the moment - an arrangement that had been made some months in advance for her younger sibling. My daughter has not welcomed our guest and breakfast time is particularly frought. This morning I had to go to the shops to get some more chocolate au pains as the packet had been opened by her younger sister. This rendered the remaining two pastries unpalatable in my daughters judgement.
I walked my daughter to school as her friend was not going today. Normally the two of them walk together, but there is an arrangement in place with the school that my daughter can go to Student Support instead of being subjected to the busy corridors to get her attendance marked in her form room.
We walked down when all the other students had gone in and all was well.
